Eunice Armenis (also known as Eunice Whistledown) is a brothel owner in Mayfair. She is also the grandmother of Penelope and Felicity Whistledown, as well as mother to Portia Ponsonby and Cordelia Whistledown.
History
Eunice was born in Athens, Greece. When she was only nineteen years old, she met the Earl of Bessborough and they ended up having a short affair during his stay in Greece. He promised to come back to her after getting rid of his arranged marriage, and she believed him.
He did came back, less than two years later, and after a promise to make her his wife and lover, she gave her body and soul to him completely. The Earl brought her to England with him, promising to live together. However, he spent most of his time not on their house, but outside. Suspicious of what he might be hiding, she followed him one day to discover that he had, in fact, married the arranged bride his parents designed for him.
Heartbroken and betrayed, Eunice comfronted him, and after some love declarations and promises, also clearing up the mess, she agreed to become his mistress. However, it coincided with the creation of the new law to keep the noble line pure. And Eunice would be punished for it. So she escaped to Mayfair, built a new life and found out she was pregnant with his child.
Months after her daughter was born, he found them and manipulated her into letting him take their daughter, promising a better life for her in the Highest Ton. Even if reluctantly, Eunice knew that her plans were not the best for her daughter, so she agreed to let her go with the Earl.
Almost two years later, he showed up again with their daughter, Portia, as it was her new name, finally introducing them properly. Blinded by the weeks they spent together as a happy family while he pretended to be out of the country doing business, Eunice ended falling for his charms again and they had another affair, a sort of honeymoon where they acted like a happy family with Portia by day, and became passionate lovers at night.
The time for him to leave arrived again, with a promise to come back more frequently this time. Weeks later Eunice found out she was pregnant again with another of his child. Since he promised to come back, she decided to send him a letter, letting him know she had a surprise for him. However, the letter got returned with a simple note to never contact him again.
Although she did try to contact him again, all of her attempts were returned. It was only when she received a threat of death that she stopped, already in the late months of her second pregnancy. Again heartbroken, she promised to herself that she would never let him take another daughter from her, keeping her close and raised as she should have.
Personality
Growing up, Eunice was known to be a kind and gentle soul, though a bit too ambitious for her sex. Never minding that, she lived her teenage years being happy and outspoken, with a tint to the entertainment world at her feet. She became a professional dancer at the ripe age of seventeen, becoming the main attraction of a cabaret in Greece, where she later met the love of her life.
However, as the years went by and her heart was constantly broken and healed back together, she developed a harder shell around it. She became someone more composed and less outspoken, only speaking when necessary and with a buried anger that she longed to release. Still, when it came to her courteseans and granddaughters, she tried her best to be kind. Even if her heart was a little rotten.
Relationships
ROMANTIC
Jacob Ponsonby — Earl of Bessborough
Eunice's ex-lover and downfall. They lived a whirlwind romance when they were younger, and she fell for his empty love promises and declarations. Now, she doesn't know how he is, with whom he is, and what he's doing with his life, refusing to even let her daughter say anything the few times she went visiting. The same doesn't go for Jacob, as he is aware of her hatred, resentment and regret regarding him.
She is Eunice's granddaughter. When her daughter came to her after getting pregnant with a baron's child, she didn't hesitate to help. Portia spent some weeks and gave birth to the twins, and Eunice immediately fell in love with the two princesses, raising them like more of her daughters.
Felicity Whistledown — The Third Princess, Macaria
She is Eunice's granddaughter. Just like her twin sister, Eunice fell in love with her since the first moment they were born. When she found out that Felicity wanted to be part of the entertainment world, she received a new challenge of raising her carefully to not get too lost in this. However, she did a great job as Felicity is very thankful to her.
Eunice's eldest daughter. She was taken to High Society by her father when she was just months old, becoming a secret until she was old enough to be presented as his ward, tragical survivor of an accident with distant relatives. Eunice decided to forgive her daughter for the way she treated her, feeling guilty because she agreed with Portia being taken to High Society.
Cordelia Whistledown — Princess Nerina
Eunice's younger daughter. Cordelia is a sweet and kind girl, reminding Eunice a lot of herself when she was younger. The happiness bubbled from Cordelia and she was socially eloquent like it was as easy as breathing. However, after she received a suspicious client that not even Eunice could have protected her from, she acquired a sexual desease that evetually made her become weaker and sicker, losing her spark and happiness.
Prudence Whistledown — The First Princess, Iliana
One of the courteseans that work for Eunice and basically an adopted daughter. Prudence showed up at her Entertainment House when she was just twelve, saying she was running from a worse faith Eunice took her in, raised her to become a courtesean and treated her like a daughter, just like the others. She still doesn't know from what Prudence was running from, but it didn't matter for nothing would happen to her if Eunice could stop it.
Philippa Whistledown — The Second Princess, Thisbe
One of the courteseans that work for Eunice and another adopted daughter, basically. She was born and raised in the Muse House, with her mother being a former courtesean and her father being an unknown client. Now, her mother works for Eunice in the kithen of the Muse House, while she entertain men just like her mother used to do.
FRIENDSHIPS
Soma Anderson — Mayfair's Apothecary
Soma met Eunice when they were still in the Ton. She was a young mistress looking to escape before becoming the target of a law unfair for women, Soma was a prisoner in a marrage and they bonded over the hard difficulties women go through. Eunice became independent and Soma became powerful, becoming friends again after years apart.
RIVALS
Vivian Ledger — Baroness Barkeley
Eunice has a deep hatred for this woman for the way she treated Soma when they were younger. As knowing what it's like to believe the loving promises of a lying man, she took Soma's side immediately. When they met--once, by the way--she also showed hostility to Eunice because she wasn't born in England as well. Vivian is the perfect example of how the Highest Ton can be nasty.
Lauren Ponsonby — Countess of Bessborough
Eunice's former love rival. Lauren found out about Eunice's existence when her husband came back from his first travels and she found their love letters. She had never met Eunice, but they are both aware of the other's existance.
