Penelope Anderson is the eldest daughter of Portia Ponsonby and Archibald Featherington, and eldest twin sister of Felicity Whistledown. She is also Soma Anderson's adopted daughter and Phillip Anderson's adopted sister.

History

Penelope was raised by Soma Anderson, a former royal apothecary and Countess that was exiled from high society, using her passion of writing and books to help the pharmacist, therefore becoming the scrivener for the woman and her son, Phillip. She has a younger twin sister, Felicity, who was raised by the courteseans on a local Entertainment House owned by her own grandmother, Madam Eunice.

When she gets abducted and sold as a servant to a high society family, Penelope ends up saving the life of the heir to the English throne, and his mother, Grand Duchess Daphne Basset, decides to offer her a promotion to Dame of Court. Now, she must navigate the world of high society in a way she was never truly good doing in Mayfair. So she invents her own little help.

Oh, and she was in love with an Earl. The Grand Duchess' brother, Colin Bridgerton. Who's engaged to be married currently, and he is not even allowed to have a mistress by law.

Personality

Penelope is mostly a kind girl, though very reclusive. She doesn't like to get unwanted attention, even though sometimes she still does. She is known to be practical to a limit, fairly aware of her space in the world and her environment. She is also highly critical of things like High Society and the Entertainment Culture around her friends.

However, she's not only summarized around the kind and introvert personality, and although it hadn't happened many times, she tends to be extremely protective of the people she care about, such as her brother and her sisters. Especially her twin sister.

Relationships

ROMANTIC

Colin Bridgerton — Earl of Eastbourne

Penelope has felt the spark since she'd laid her eyes on him from the first time. Their interactions have been friendly and occasional so far, but Colin has been showing some eargerness to know more about her. She finds they are good acquaintences, especially after all his help on her first event in high society so far. However, he has a fiancée, Marina Thompson, and for that reason he is out of Penelope's reach.

Friedrich of Prussia — Prince of Prussia

After their first meeting in a ball, Friedrich couldn't contain his interest in the newcomer. As the Prince of Prussia, he would have to find a wife eventually, and with the way Penelope presented herself, she looked like a fine choice. However, any lady who would become his wife would have to be accepted by his aunt, the Queen herself. And that's how he began orchastrating their encounter.

                Alfred Debling — Royal Physician

Penelope met Alfred during a visit to the royal castle. He's been the royal physician for the past fifteen years since the previous one was exiled. He is considered competent enough, even if a bit dull and daft. However, they spark a friendship when Penelope helps him keep his position and job, and he soon shows his not-so-friendly intentions regarding her.

FAMILIAL

Felicity Whistledown — The Youngest Princess, Macaria

Penelope's younger twin sister. Born on the same day, almost at the same time, but their personalities and appearances were different enough. Even though they grew up in different houses, they still grew up closer to each other, especially during their learning years in the Muse House. Felicity is her safe space, her confidante and her best friend. Penelope is truly overprotective of her just the same way that she is too.

                Soma Anderson — Mayfair's Apothecary

When the Muse House was too full and after her son, Phillip, got closer to Penelope, Soma decided to adopt her to help her friend, Eunice, who had much to worry about. It was also around the same time that a shadow of the past showed up and tried to take the girls away, so separating both of them was the right decision. Penelope feels grateful for Soma, because it's thanks to her that she grew so fond of writing.

                Phillip Anderson — Mayfair's Apothecary

He is Penelope's adopted brother. They met when they were children and Phillip was assigned to deliver medicine to the Muse House under Soma's request. From there, they became friends as well as he did with Felicity. When Soma decided to take Penelope under her wings, Phillip helped her get used to the routine and taught her to read along with Soma. She is also very protective of him

                Cordelia Whistledown — Princess Nerina

Penelope's aunt. She is the one doing the medicine and treatment to help her live longer, even though everyone says that her days are counted. Penelope and Felicity were her wet daughters, and she was one of their teachers along with the courteseans and Madam Eunice, so they are quite attached to their aunt, the way they should be to their mother.

                Eunice Whistledown — Madam Eunice

She is Penelope's grandmother. Coming from Greece, she fell for the charms of someone from high society who broke her heart not only once, but twice. She is a strong, independent owner who now do her best to stop her daughters (the courteseans) from falling for the same mistakes she did. She only regrets not being able to do so with her oldest daughter.

                Portia Ponsonby — Dame Portia

She is Penelope (and Felicity's) biological mother. Even though she gave birth to the twins, she had never been particularly close to neither. Hardly came to visit them in Mayfair and basically chose high society instead of her blood. However, when she finds out about her daughter's proximity to an Earl, she goes into protective mode, fearing her to commit the same mistake she and her mother did.

                Archibald Featherington — Baron Featherington

Archibald only found out about the twins when they were two years, and he tried to buy them out of the Muse House. Penelope doesn't like him, and she has stated that clearly the multiple times he tried to visit and take them with him.

FRIENDSHIPS

Sophie Baek — The Lady in Silver

Penelope's close friend after arriving in Clyvedon Estate. She is also very secretive and reclusive, just like Penelope, and that's why they get along so well. The difference is that Sophie is even more down-to-earth than Penelope. Sophie also has many secrets of her own, such as her origins or her own secret identity.

                Genevieve Delacroix — The Modiste

Penelope's close friend after arriving in Clyvedon Estate. She also portrays a secret of her own, just like her two friends. Genevieve has beeen living there for longer than the others, staying for longer instead of going back to France, as she should have done years ago. Penelope doesn't know the reason why she wants to stay. No one does.

Daphne Basset — Grand Duchess of Hastings

Penelope's employer and friend. The Grand Duchess was so thankful for her action in curing her son that she decided to not only give Penelope a promotion, but she also decided to stop her abducters from receiving any of her hardworking pences. Daphne is a good person and Penelope likes her a lot, she is also very grateful for her.

                Eloise Bridgerton — Dame Eloise

She is the Grand Duchess' younger sister and, even though they are from different social classes, Eloise becomes a great companion for Penelope, especially during the lady's time in training to become a Dame of Court herself. They constantly bond over books and society observations.

                Francesca Bridgerton — Miss Bridgerton

Another one of the Grand Duchess's younger sister. Besides being from different social classes, Penelope liked Francesca from the first moment she saw her. She found it admirable how the girl seemed safe and comfortable with her piano, and she enjoyed her company while becoming a Dame of Court. Francesca is introvert and calm, a respite to be around in such crowded society.

                Kate Sharma — Lady Kate

Kate is the head of the Dame of Courts from the Grand Duchess. She is also a good guidance for Penelope during her first events. Kate quickly became an older sister figure for Penelope due to her patience and pragmatic teaching. They became closer as the times went by.
