Simon Basset is the Grand Duke of Hastings. He's also the father of the future King of England and nephew to the current Queen, Charlotte.
History
Simon is the first and only child between Adolphus and Sarah Basset. During his childhood, he had a difficulty with speech, but as soon as his godmother, Agatha Danbury, found out his disability, she decided to help him.
After the death of his wife, Simon's father became more and more severe, even mistreating his son, leading to a lot of arguments and fights between them. Simon held a grudge against his father until the day of his death, even promising to never sire a heir. However, since his aunt needed it, he changed his mind.
Simon still has a grudge against his father, but since he saw his wife and child going through tough times because of poisoning and death, he found out he could understand what Adolphus went through a lot better now.
Personality
Simon had great difficulty with speech when he was younger, but he was a kind soul. However, as he grew older, his personality molded towards what society expected of men like him. A rake. Especially when considering his best friend, Anthony Bridgerton, that's also been a rake, they sure shared their youth having all kind of fun they were allowed to have.

Daphne Basset — Grand Duchess of Hastings
Simon's beloved wife and best friend. Although reluctant to be married at the start, after developing a friendship and a connection to Daphne, he knew she was the right choice, even though people tried to put other debutantes in his way. Their proximity became a problem to Simon's best friend, Anthony, but it didn't stop their connection, even if she herself was still in doubt if she'd accept the Prince's proposal or his.

Augustus Basset — Prince of Wales
Simon and Daphne's son. He is the heir to the throne and their parents' dearest person. Since they have been assigned to sire the heir, they've been long awaiting for Augustus' arrival. After passing through some difficult times when he was born, Augustus is now healthy and fine, much to the happiness and grace of the whole kingdom.
Agatha Danbury — Countess of Seaforth
Simon's godmother, once a royal apothecary. She was best friends both with his mother, Sarah, and a close friend to the Queen herself. However, after a grave mistake that cost the life of a heir, she's been exiled from the royal court and lost her title and its benefits, including the connection to her own godson.
Adolphus Basset — Former Grand Duke of Hastings
Simon's father and his only parent alive in his childhood. Before Simon showed his disability, his father was close and loving, even when mourning his wife. However, after Simon showed signs of difficulty in speech, the former Grand Duke became more severe and distant.
Sarah Basset — Former Grand Duchess of Hastings
Simon's late mother. According to what his godmother told him, he took a lot of her personality. However, Sarah was practical to an extent, and stubborn like hell. She knew what her duty was, what was her place in the world and, even after so many miscarriages, she still insisted in siring an heir to her husband, leading to her death.
Queen Charlotte — Queen of England
Simon's aunt. Charlotte is the sister of his late father, and she's been showing her support in his line succeeding the throne. She wasn't an extremely affectionate member of the family, but Simon suspects that it's because she's been deppressed for her lack of success in siring an heir.

Anthony Bridgerton — The Duke of Kent
Simon's closest friend and brother-in-law since they were teenagers.They went to Oxford together and became friends due to their old similar lifestyles. However, when Simon started courting his sister, they became hostile to each other, almost killing themselves in a duel. Now, however, they are best friends again and treat each other as brothers from different mothers..
Benedict Bridgerton — The Earl of Luton
Simon's brother-in-law. At the beginning, Simon didn't take Benedict seriously due to his jokester and unserious nature. However, currently he sees him more as a younger brother, just like Anthony does. Simon is not exactly close to Benedict since their interests collide so much, but they still consider each other friends.
Colin Bridgerton — The Earl of Eastbourne
Simon's brother-in-law. At the beginning, Simon admitted to seeing him as a child, but his mind changed after the way he saw Colin being protective of his wife, Daphne, gaining a new layer of respect for the man. Colin thought Simon to be too much like Anthony in the beginning, thinkig him the wrong choice for his sister, but Simon made sure to change his mind. Now, they both bond over the future and purpose.
William Mondrich — The Duke of Wellington
Simon's close friend. They have been friends for years, bonding over their background and boxing hobbies. William Mondrich is like an elder brother that Simon's never had.
